It’s no secret that music catered toward children has been around for decades. What has been growing exponentially, however, is the interest in kid-friendly podcasts and audiobooks — to the delight of parents everywhere. This is thanks mostly to audio streaming services offering more and more tracks that are both kid-friendly and educational. For instance, Spotify recently introduced Spotify Kids, which, as you would guess, has a library chock full of content for younger audiences. Other options include Pinna, which is an ad-free streaming service “custom-made for kids 3-12.” It includes podcasts, audiobooks, and music for $7.99 per month after a month-long free trial. And it’s available on a variety of platforms including iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows.

One-stop Streaming Services for Everyone

Fox Business points out that podcasts designed for kids aged three to 12 years old is quite new, and parents are just recently taking notice. It helps that popular websites like Audible offer a healthy dose of titles for kids. For reference, out of the 475,000 titles in Audible’s library, 30,000 are made for children. The company also stated that there was a 40 percent increase in total downloads as compared to the previous year. Pinna produced 25 podcasts for its young audience in 2019 alone. According to Pinna CEO Maggie McGuire, they have more than 2,000 audiobooks, podcasts, and songs — all while protecting the listeners’ online safety and privacy. McGuire added that podcasts are “a fresh new format that everyone’s very excited about.”

Choosing Sound Over Visuals

Perhaps the best reason to choose audiobooks and podcasts over screen-related content is the convenience. It’s great for keeping kids busy while traveling or when parents are busy. Dapito also mentioned that we’ve reached a point wherein children don’t have to look far to find the content they need. Audiobooks and podcasts are now around for “everybody to come together.”
